Gimpy gaited geezer
With a dog pulling him straight
Both looking for a place to piss
The sound of the waterfall over the dam
Stirs tingling between the legs
And the old man’s diffused mind
Pissing off brain and limbs in kind
In a symbiotic delusion of duality
The frozen leash cuts limp
Dribbling speech under the willows
As the dog stoops in the tall grass
Away from the reach of a yard light
The man’s mind recalls body memory from childhood
Mimics and twitches of youth that sing routine
Hammer echoes that reverberate in mnemonic physicality
Catching a ball, running, throwing dice
With all of the child’s breezy ease
Until the mind complicates things
Conceives
A bunny springs from a bush
Its tail a white flag waving to and fro
As the old man leans into a crouch
To counter the captive dog’s lunging weight
The rabbit becomes another rotting face
Festering with age
A cabbage head
Bouncing from stick to stick
Icon of every handsome or pretty trait
The old man, reminded of Nietzsche and the horse
Yells at the dog
Stop!
Don’t you remember that we drained the blood
From all the graves?

One response to “Cabbage – The Preferred Vegetable of Dumpsters”
You created a very vivid image of an old man and his dog . . .
